Science in 20 seconds:
Your brain watches for threats (negativity bias). What you repeatedly attend to and act on strengthens those circuits (neuroplasticity). Tiny, consistent reps beat big, rare efforts.
5 brain-backed practices (2–3 minutes each)
- Longer-Exhale Reset (90s)
In 4 • hold 2 • out 6 — repeat 6–8 breaths.
Why: Longer exhales nudge the body toward calm so thinking comes back online. - If-Then Planning (30s)
“If it’s [after lunch], then I’ll [walk 8 minutes].”
Why: Implementation intentions automate follow-through, even when motivation dips. - 20-Second Savor
Name one moment that went okay. Replay it in detail for one slow breath.
Why: Deliberate attention to positives helps counter negativity bias and consolidates memory. - Challenge Reframe (30s)
Before a tough task: “I’m activated because this matters. Energy = fuel.”
Why: Shifting appraisal from threat to challenge improves performance under stress. - Micro-Connection (60s)
Send a two-sentence thank-you or encouragement.
Why: Warm social signals buffer stress and boost perceived support.
Run a 10-Day Micro-Experiment (teams or clients)
- Day 0 (baseline): “How resilient do I feel?” 0–10; Rough days last week 0–7.
- Pick one practice above; anchor it to an existing routine.
- Pulse on Days 4 & 8: same two questions + “What helped most?”
- Day 10 (post): Compare to baseline.
Keep if +2 points resilience or −1 rough day/week. Otherwise swap the practice.
Lightweight guardrails: opt-in only, aggregate results, no small-group reporting.
Drop-in scripts you can copy
- Manager 1:1 (2 minutes):
“0–10, how resourced do you feel this week?” → “What would move you +1?” → “What can I remove?” → “Pick one 10-minute action; I’ll check next time.” - Therapy between-session card:
If–Then: ______ → Savor 20s: ______ → Micro-connection: ______
Not therapy or medical advice. Use alongside clinical care/EAP as needed.
